Enhancing Statement Exports in Revolut

Revolut App

So what are people saying about the Revolut?

I went over the pain points from online sources. I find some exact points from Revolut Community Forum, and App Store reviews and feedback. These are just some Ideas & feedback from the EXPORT TRANSACTION LIST WITH MORE INFORMATION section on the Revolut community website.

My researches

The Revolut Application offers a wide range of international banking services such as peer-to-peer payments, quick and frequent money transfers, and even digital currency trading.

Despite having different features in Revolut, it has a feature that allows users to generate and download their account statements based on their desired date in Excel or PDF format.

Therefore, the main goal of this project is to improve the Statement Export feature in the Revolut app to better meet user needs and improve the overall user experience. By addressing specific pain points identified by users, the project aims to provide a more comprehensive and efficient solution for financial tracking and analysis.

The key objectives of my project include:

1-Increased performance of data export:

Include "Category" and "Comment" attributes: Make sure exported files contain "comment" and "category" fields. This allows users to retain important background information and categorize their expenses more effectively.

Adding filtering and searching: Implement advanced filtering and search capabilities in export files to help users organize and analyze their financial data.

2- Improve User Satisfaction:

Minimize the need for users to manually edit and categorize exported expressions, thus saving them time and effort.

The goal

Before starting this case study, I just want to mention that this case study is my journey as a Revolut user and UX designer. As a dedicated Revolut user, I have always appreciated the convenience and features of the Revolut app to manage my finances.

I want to start with the challenge of tracking my expenses each month and categorizing them for better financial planning. I rely heavily on the statement export functionality to generate accurate financial reports because it allows me to better and more accurately manage my expenses.

The problem I had was that I could not select categories for the final output file. This made it very difficult to accurately analyze my expenses. I found myself spending hours adding categories to exported expressions in Excel. This repetitive process was a pain point for me. As a UX designer, I cannot ignore this problem.

So, I began by gathering feedback from other Revolut users and analyzing user reviews. It became clear that I wasn’t alone in my frustration; many users were experiencing similar issues and were eager for a solution. Given this data, I decided to design a project aimed at addressing this common pain point.

I believe that solving this problem will help users take full control of their financial data and have a more efficient and satisfying financial management experience.

What is Revolut app?

After spending several hours on the project, I finally completed the redesign. So, using the Principle to build a high-fidelity prototype, I created prototype of the redesign.

About defining the problem statement

Therefore, user feedback highlights these main pain points:

lack of "Category": Users have expressed the need to export these fields to facilitate data analysis and expense tracking.

And I also came across an idea about putting "note or comment" fields. I found it interesting because as users mentioned they can write whatever notes they want in their final file.

While the current statement export feature allows users to:

So the current REVOLUT app does not have the option to filter categories, and according to the research and analysis, I added the category filtering option, Where if the user does not want to have the statement of his entire bank account, he can easily filter the category from among the options.

I also added a section to add any comments, so that users can easily add notes if needed.

Before creating designs, I gathered my research goals and transferred everything from my mind to paper.

Reflection

After spending days working on my design project, I realized how glad I was that I did this challenge. This allowed me to practice my skills and focus on research and planning before starting the actual design.

Diving into this project, I realized that I could design under time pressure as I did this project under a tight deadline to challenge myself!

I enjoyed the process so much that I think I might start doing it more often. Plus, it felt great to work on one of my favorite shows!

After gathering insights from research, I considered a Persona.

Creating Persona

So in this task, Alex creates a custom financial statement for restaurant expenses for the last month and adds personal comments to this category.

The user flow consists of opening the statement section, selecting the desired date, selecting a category, then adding a comment, and then generating it.

Flow chart

Based on the insights from my research and my understanding of user pain points and needs, I have tried to develop user-centric solutions that not only meet real user needs but also provide a positive user experience.
